just a heads up about something i have realised. if you are paying for a service and you are offered an all in one up front fee that covers everything (especially for a service that will be ongoing for many months) remember that this allows the person providing the service to do the bare minimum having already been paid.
i’ve learned this recently, complaining about slow and patchy service and realising that they have no incentive to provide anything beyond satisfactory as they have already had all the money. if it was being paid monthly the threat of no longer using the service would be there to help, but it isn’t. in fact, they have all the power as if they do a shoddy job and we don’t want to continue they save time and effort, getting paid the same amount.
i’ll be avoiding this in the future. i really should have worked it out before now.
Update to my official title; there is "M.Res" attached to the end of my name
but you can still just call me bobben
maybe bobben, master of research on sundays.
apparently i have been this for a month but the university thought fit not to tell me and still haven’t. also it’s only almost a whole year into my PhD but hey ho, bring on graduation (possibly in november) with the babe in attendance :D
